Proper Presents: SOUNDS for Austin City Limits
As Austin turned up the music for two weekends of ACL Festival this fall, The Quill Room at Austin Proper became a natural extension of the city’s sonic pulse—hosting four distinct nights of Proper Presents: SOUNDS events.
To kick it all off, we welcomed The Marías fresh from their festival performance for a DJ set, with Josh Conway stepping away from his drum kit to command the decks, moving effortlessly between disco rhythms and deep bass lines while Maria and band members Maria Zardoya, Jesse Perlman, and Edward James mingled with guests.
The following evening, Paco Versailles brought their signature “Dancemenco” style to the space, with duo Ryan Merchant and Vahagni weaving flamenco guitar through electronic beats in an intimate late-night session.
Sunday night peaked with Grammy-winning musician Jess Glynne transforming The Quill Room with a rare acoustic performance. Accompanied only by piano and backing vocals, her powerful voice filled the space as she performed a short set—an unforgettable contrast to her full festival set earlier that day.
On weekend two, we closed out the festival fun with St. Lucia’s Jean-Philip Grobler and Patti Beranek taking their alt-pop sensibilities behind the decks, curating a DJ set of both familiar favorites and unexpected selections, with the duo adding live vocals throughout the night, and Nicky Paul contributing on synth.
Thanks to all who joined us for these incredible performances—we’re honored to be able to bring together our community for intimate, connection-inspiring moments like these. Stay tuned and follow along to learn about upcoming shows, events, and gatherings in our Proper Presents series!
