Cancellation Policy

Reservations must be cancelled or modified 48 hours prior arrival by 3pm PST, or guests will be charged a one-night penalty.

Guaranteed Reservation

Reservations must be guaranteed by a major credit card when you book. Blackout dates are subject to their own rules. For security purposes, please provide a valid government or state-issued photo ID at check-in. To cover incidentals, $200/day will be authorized on your credit card.

EARLY ARRIVAL / LATE DEPARTURE / EARLY DEPARTURE

Check in time is after 4:00 pm and check out time is 12:00 pm. Arriving early or need that extra hour of sleep? We’ll do our very best to accommodate you (based on availability) – just let us know in advance. If we can’t, we’ll gladly stow your luggage safely and securely, until you’re ready to move on. Late check out fees may apply. If you check out or leave before your scheduled departure date, there is a fee of one night’s stay plus tax.

TAXES & FEES

Room rates are subject to the following nightly Fees:

Santa Monica Room Occupancy Tax: 15.00% per night

Santa Monica TMD Assessment: $6.75 per night

CA State Tourism Assessment: 0.2% per night

Daily Destination Amenity Fee: $55 (plus tax) which includes:

  • Premium Wi-Fi throughout the property
  • Bottled water, replenished daily
  • eLECTRA Bike rentals (upon availability)
  • Access to rooftop pool
  • In room Nespresso Machine

  • 15% off Surya Spa one day treatments
POOL POLICY

Use of our rooftop pool facilities is exclusive to in-house guests only. Lounge chairs cannot be shared with outside parties.

PET POLICY

We love your furry friends and they are definitely welcome at Santa Monica Proper Hotel. With every pet stay, Proper will help a pet in need. 10% of your pet fee gets donated to the Best Friends Animal Society.

Please note our pet fee/policy includes:

  • $100 one time, non-refundable fee (per pet)
  • 2 pets max
  • Max weight of 45 lb per pet
  • Sorry, no cats
  • Additional fees may apply for deep cleaning or damages that occur

SMOKING POLICY

Santa Monica Proper is a non-smoking hotel. Therefore, smoking is not allowed in any public area, food and beverage outlet or guest rooms. A smoking cleaning fee of $400 will be assessed in the event smoking does occur in the guest rooms.

Overnight Hotel Guest:
$70, per vehicle (in & out privileges)

Visitor/Restaurant:
$20
+$3 every 20 minutes after (max $65)

PHOTO POLICY

We love our spaces just as much as you do — and we’re so happy you’re excited to photograph and share! With that in mind, we ask you please respect our highly-designed spaces and the privacy of our hotel guests and visitors while taking any images. Our goal is to create a one-of-a-kind Proper experience for all!

Mobile phone photography is permitted with limitations:

  • No more than 5 minutes of dedicated photo taking please
  • Privacy and respect for hotel guests must be observed at all times.
  • Doors, hallways, passages, elevators, etc. may not be blocked for any reason.
  • Spaces must remain 100% intact – furniture, design elements, seating, etc. cannot be moved, rearranged, or stood on.
  • Respect for the working staff must be considered at all times

ARTS & CULTURE

Bergamot Station
Inside a former train station, this artsy enclave in Santa Monica is home to 30 contemporary and fine art galleries. Open Tuesday-Friday 10am-6pm, and Saturday 11am-5:30pm.

The Getty Villa
Modeled after a first-century Roman country house, J. Paul Getty originally built the Getty Villa to house an art collection that was quickly outgrowing his house. Now, beyond touring the exquisite home and gardens, you can see his collection of 44,000 antiquities.

The Getty Center
Offering some of the city’s best views, you can spend a good half-day picnicking on the lawn or admiring the Richard Meier-designed exterior before you even head inside. Includes current exhibitions, a permanent collection, and hands-on activities for kids.

The Broad 
LA’s homage to one of the largest and most significant worldwide collections of contemporary art, including works by artists like Cindy Sherman, Roy Lichtenstein, Jeff Koons, and Christopher Wool — all set in an entirely column-less, sky-lit gallery.

The Hammer Museum
There’s always something excellent on display at this UCLA museum—the perfect way to spend a few idle hours. Be sure to check out their adjacent museum store for books and gifts from L.A.-based designers.

BEACH & SURF

Santa Monica Beach
Just west of Downtown Los Angeles, Santa Monica beach is iconic for a reason. Offering large expanses of beach, bike trails, and nearby activities, Santa Monica Beach has exactly what you’re looking for.

Venice Beach
Venice Beach is one of many great L.A. beaches—and its acclaimed Breakwater is a favorite local surf spot. It’s the only place on the beach where waves break on both sides, while the sand is reportedly the finest for creating sand sculptures.

Malibu
One of our go-to beaches, Zuma is also one of the most impressive in scope, stretching close to three miles along the coast. It’s also home to a great break for beginner surfers as well as a meeting spot for paddle boarding classes.

Surfrider Beach
Home to the iconic first point surf break, Surfrider Beach is one of the more crowded beaches along the PCH, but it’s well situated if you’re looking to take in a bit of sun and some surfer-watching.

Topanga Beach
Topanga Beach is the closest Malibu California beach to Los Angeles and is a great surf spot, with waves wrapping around the sandy point formed by Topanga Creek creating a continuous right break.

Annenberg Community Beach House
A community destination that’s open to the public. Includes spectacular views, splash pad, children’s play area, gallery, and historic pool. Open 10am – 7pm every day, $10 per person.

Sunset Point Beach & Surf 
Sunset Point Beach is located in the Pacific Palisades district and is the northernmost beach in Will Rogers State Beach; it’s also a great spot for beginner surfers.

OUTDOORS & WELLNESS

Santa Monica Bike Path
Known formally as the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, the entire path runs for 22 miles parallel to the Pacific Ocean, from Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades to Torrance Beach in the South Bay.

Santa Monica Stairs
The twin Santa Monica stairs are a mecca for hard bodies and weekend fitness warriors who also jump rope, stretch, and jog. Be sure to bring whatever you need as there are no facilities.

Will Rogers State Park
A 186-acre state park with horse stables, a polo field, and a riding ring, along with a host of trails that feed into other state park systems. An idyllic place for a picnic (or a trail ride).

Palisades Park
Set on a cliff overlooking the water, this park spans from just north of San Vicente Boulevard to Colorado Avenue – a wonderful place for a light hike or a long walk or bike ride.

Tongva Park
Cross the street from the Santa Monica Pier to visit this brand-new, space-age park, with long slides built into the hills, a slanted climbing wall, and huge jungle gym-like cones.

Rustic Canyon Park
A humble Pacific Palisades park that exudes quiet elegance — the backyard you always wish you had, surrounded by shady places to picnic and a villa-style rec center.

Christine Emerson Reed Park
Neighborhood park with tennis & basketball courts, plus a playground for children.
