Proper Presents: TASTES with Siesta Co and Mas Vino Please

The Mediterranean-inspired Calabra spirit set a perfect vibe for the latest collaboration in our Proper Presents: TASTES series—an early autumn evening of natural wines and Spanish tinned fish on our new rooftop terrace.

We were excited to welcome Andrea Jaramillo of Más Vino Please and LA-based Siesta Co. to celebrate Calabra’s new tinned fish and natural wine menu. As guests arrived, Jaramillo—known for making wine culture more accessible through her “non-somm” approach—curated a selection ranging from the citrusy-bright Garalis Terra Ambera orange to Wonderwerk’s Chismosa red, a collaboration with her own label. To complement each bottle, the wife-and-husband team Lucia and Carlos in partnership with Proper’s head chef, Sonnie Gomez, prepared an assortment of Siesta Co. conservas, all inspired by bringing authentic Spanish flavors to the California coast. While DJ BVR provided the evening’s soundtrack, guests sampled what will become Calabra’s new conserva board: a selection of tinned Spanish sardines, pickled mussels, smoked anchovies, and white clams paired with za’atar-dusted lavash, piparra peppers, and piquillo relish.
