Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail | First Street Bridge at Lady Bird Lake

Just down the street from Austin Proper, the Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail includes 10 miles of varying terrain looped around Lake Bird Lake, with two pedestrian-only bridges great for dogs, runners, walkers, and cyclists. You’ll want to keep your pup on a leash for this one!

Auditorium Shores at Town Lake Metro Park | 900 W Riverside Drive

Located on the banks of Lady Bird Lake, Auditorium Shores is the hub of the hike-and-bike trail, complete with a music venue and skyline views. Recently redeveloped, the park boasts a new irrigation system, re-graded lawn, high performance turfgrass, and most importantly: an enhanced off-leash dog area.

Zilker Dog Park | 2100 Barton Springs Road

Probably the best known park in Austin, Zilker Park is a pup favorite. With scenic views of downtown, this dog park is not fenced but well-behaved dogs can roam and play off-leash on the spacious lawn. Popular for picnics, impromptu pick-up games, and the venue of the annual Austin City Limits Festival, Zilker Park is a true part of the Austin experience.

Red Bud Isle | 3401 Red Bud Trail 

Surrounded by water on three sides, this 13-acre park offers a unique place for pups to socialize, swim, frolic, and play off-leash. We recommend bringing a towel along—your pup will likely get wet and dirty here!

Barking Springs | 2101 Barton Springs Road

You may have heard of Barton Springs, a popular swimming hole for humans…but just downstream you’ll find a zone where dogs are also welcome. Affectionately nicknamed “Barking Springs,” the chilly, 68-degree springs are the perfect spot to cool off on a hot day.

Make the most of your dog park experience with a few local tips:

1. Dogs must be within sight and sound control of owners/handlers at all times.
2. No aggressive dogs, dogs in heat, or dogs without rabies vaccinations are allowed in off-leash areas.
3. Owners must clean up after dogs and deposit waste into a trash can.
4. Austin leash ordinance requires dogs to be on a leash no longer than six feet when on city land, except when in designated off-leash areas.
